£175 I Consultation
Frontal recession in a female with Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia
Hair loss can develop at any age and causes great distress, for both men and women. The first step in treating hair loss is an accurate diagnosis by a Dermatologist or a Trichologist. Often a diagnosis can be made on clinical examination alone. Sometimes a biopsy of the scalp is necessary to determine the cause of the hair loss.
The more common causes of hair loss include Alopecia Areata, Female Pattern Hair Loss and Male Type Baldness. Less common causes are Frontal Fibrosing Alopecia and other scarring diseases of the hair follicles.
The 30 minute consultation includes an examination of the scalp to help make a diagnosis. In addition, the consultation covers the use of cosmeceuticals and nutraceuticals in the management of hair loss, including advice on products that help to volumise hair, and those that camouflage bald or thin areas. Treatments for hair loss are discussed, and include a range of products such as topical Minoxidil / Regaine, oral medications such as Finasteride, and corticosteroid injections for Alopecia Areata and some of the scarring disorders.
